Softer than ever Thermoplastic Olefin (TPO) Elastomers
Dryflex® Olefin Block Copolymer (OBC) based TPOs, powered by INFUSE™ polymers from The Dow Chemical Company (Dow), extend the design possibilities of conventional TPOs with unique property advantages, a broader range of hardnesses and superior processing performance.
VTC TPE Group, a leader in the development and manufacture of custom formulated thermoplastic elastomer has introduced a new family of TPO compounds which will be marketed under the Dryflex® OBC name, they feature a number of enhanced physical properties; -
Dryflex® OBC compounds are available in a broad range of Shore A hardnesses, from gel-soft Zero Shore A up to 90, conventional TPOs are usually not available below 70 Shore A. -
Dryflex® OBC compounds offer superior elastic recovery at higher strain rates than TPOs with rubber phases of EPDM. -
The injection moulding grades exhibit excellent flow characteristics, ideal for filling complex or long paths. This superior flow behaviour also leads to a more isotropic shrinkage, meaning that the shrinkage is closer in every direction. This helps with the injection moulding of articles with tight dimensional tolerances. -
Dryflex® OBC compounds enhance product aesthetics with a soft-touch and non-tacky feel that reduces dust accumulation, even with soft formulations. The new Dryflex® OBC compounds can be injection moulded or extruded, are easily coloured and display excellent UV and weathering resistance. Dryflex® OBC compounds can be processed at lower temperatures, saving energy costs and lowering environmental impact.
Per G. Hellberg, managing director VTC TPE Group commented, “Dryflex® OBC compounds are an ideal complement to our range of customised TPEs, they offer our customers an attractive cost-performance solution, and open up application opportunities previously unobtainable with conventional TPOs. Together, with our existing range of TPE compounds based on SBS, SEBS, TPO and TPV technologies, we custom compound one of the broadest ranges of TPE products in the marketplace.”
“With the addition of VTC TPE Group as one of Dow’s licensees for INFUSE™ polymers, we are expanding our launch of this exciting technology,” says Filip Tauson, Global Market Manager for Thermoplastic Elastomers at Dow Europe GmbH. “Dow is looking forward to working with and offering INFUSE™ Polymers to The Vita Group, due to their strong technology leadership position in the thermoplastic compounding industry.”
“We are extremely excited about the new opportunities our Dryflex® OBC compounds offer, commented Klas Dannäs, R&D manager VTC TPE Group, they are particularly suited to soft-touch grip applications due to their comfortable, warm and silky feel, which is not always achievable with alternative soft materials.”
VTC TPE Group will be showcasing their new Dryflex® OBC compounds at PDM exhibition, stand H69.
