VTC TPE Group Expands Flame Retardant TPE Offering

VTC TPE Group has announced the expansion of its Dryflex® FR range of flame retardant thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) with the introduction of several new halogen free compounds.

The improved range includes 17 new compounds which are all halogen, chlorine and antimony free, low smoke and are compliant with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directives; offering flame retardancy without the use of polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE). The range includes hardnesses from 50 Shore A to 60 Shore D which are designed to meet UL94 V0 rated flame retardance at a variety of thicknesses;

• Dryflex FR 100 Series: SEBS based, designed to meet UL94 V0 at 2mm and above.
• Dryflex FR 200 Series: SEBS based, designed to meet UL94 V0 at 3mm and above.
• Dryflex FR 300 Series: TPO, designed to meet UL94 V0 at 1.5mm and above.
• Dryflex FR 400 Series: TPO, designed to meet UL94 V0 at 2mm and above.

Dryflex FR TPEs have a wide service temperature range, exhibiting excellent temperature resistance and compression set values at elevated temperatures. They are UV, ozone and weather resistant and offer resistance to a variety of polar fluids such as water, aqueous systems and alcohols.

Dryflex® FR compounds can be processed using conventional thermoplastic equipment for extrusion and injection moulding as well as other fabricating methods. The thermoplastic characteristics result in fast processing times and complete scrap recycling. Dryflex® FR compounds are compatible with PP in overmoulding production techniques.

Typical applications for Dryflex FR grades include welding cables, electrical insulation and connectors and appliance components together with a number of automotive components.

Mark Griffiths, R & D manager, VTC TPE Group commented, “As regulatory and environmental requirements change, we work closely with our customers to ensure we offer high-performance materials that comply with existing and upcoming industry requirements. With Dryflex FR compounds customers benefit from custom compounded, halogen free and low smoke TPEs which address the needs of electrical and electronics manufacturers following the European Union's RoHS directive, limiting the use of chlorinated and brominated additives.”
