VTC TPE Group Showcase Medical Heritage at Fakuma 2009
The VTC TPE Group once again co-exhibited with their German distributor, Nordmann Rassmann at this year’s Fakuma exhibition. The Group showcased the latest developments in their three global brands; Mediprene thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) for medical device applications, Dryflex TPE for industrial and consumer applications and Marfran TPE, which is a well known brand in the winter sports and footwear markets.
Particular focus was given to their strong heritage in the medical device market. The Group quickly recognized the potential for thermoplastic elastomers in medical applications when they began working with a number of international OEMs over 15 years ago. Since then the group has seen year on year growth of their medical sales. Mediprene thermoplastic elastomers for medical device applications offer many advantages; they are sterilizable with gamma, EtO and steam and representative grades have passed cytotoxicity tests according to ISO 10993-5 and biocompatibility tests according to USP Class VI. Mediprene thermoplastic elastomers are PVC, silicone and latex free, making them allergen free and a viable alternative to PVC based compounds. Recent developments include grades that do not contain any paraffinic oil which minimize the risk of leaching and extractables. Applications include medical tubing, IV systems, catheters, intubation and respiratory equipment, resealable membranes, drip chambers and wound care products.
VTC TPE Group has continuously invested in Mediprene in terms of plant, product development and people. In 2006 the Group spent €3.7 million to increase production capacity at their Swedish site with a dedicated medical production line. The site was the first TPE compounder to achieve ISO 13485 accreditation in 2007. Talking at Fakuma, Per G.
